23 Nov Global Game Jam goes VR
Global Game Jam is getting close! From the 29th to 31st of January we will arrange the world wide jam here in Hamar for the 8th year in a row, and we are bringing the HTC Vive, among other interesting tech, for all attendants to play with. Sign up here!
During one weekend, almost 30 000 game developers, game students and game/tech enthusiasts across over 70 countries will gather and create great game ideas. In short: Global Game Jam is all about creating game ideas and prototypes together over a span of 48 hours.
Global Game Jam Hamar will be held at, and in collaboration with, the Hedmark University College. “We are expecting somewhere between 100 and 200 participants for our 8th Global Game Jam, it’s going to be the biggest one to date. We’re happy to be able to collaborate with the school as well, they really help us take this event to the next level” says Runa Haukland, CEO of Hamar Game Collective.
Everyone over the age of 16 is welcome, from programmers to game designers, artists and musicians. Even people with no previous experience are encouraged to join, share their perspective and learn more about game development.
So, what is a game jam? For those of you new to the terminology of “game jam” we can explain it as a gathering of people making games in a really short time span, in this case 48 hours. The goal is not to make a finished game, but to be creative, experiment, meet new people, test out ideas and have fun!
Step into the VR world! We are big supporters of technology and innovation at Hamar Game Collective, and we want to make new technology available for all aspiring developers to try out. Therefore we have decided to go with a tech-theme for the Global Game Jam in 2016! This means that we’ll have different tech-stuff available for the jammers, for instance several (yes, more than one!) HTC Vives for you all to develop for and test on!
One of our member companies, Krillbite Studio, attended a game jam for HTC Vive this summer and fell head over heels with the technology. From what we can see there will be a lot of interesting games released on the console when it is released!
Not familiar with the HTC Vive? NRK visited our offices and tested the HTC Vive, so you can check out the video! (In Norwegian)
Do you want to participate in Global Game Jam in Hamar? It’s totally free, you’ll get food and a place to sleep and the experience of a lifetime! You can sign up for the jam here, and you can also pledge your allegiance by signing up as a volunteer here!
